Wow! What happened, Nobuo?

I just heard some tracks from the original PS1 versions of FF7 and FF8.  They're AWFUL!  How in the world did it take him until FF9 to get it right?!  Even FF6 didn't have this much disparity from its previous two games (though FF6 blows them out of the water quality-wise).  Worse yet, the PC versions (which I have played through both completely) do the music TONS better -- give or take a few instruments.

Anyway, can't say I care... too much.  The only problem is those soundtrack files are now worthless too me knowing a better version exists within the bowels of the PC version discs.  Oh well.

And then out of the sky comes Final Fantasy Tracks.

Must have just barely been listening to them.

You're right on that. I have heard extremely better scores on the...I guess we'll call them "remix" versions. So...I'm assuming there's an OST for just the games...which I believe I actually HAVE, only it's somewhere in Cedar at a friend's house...and then one for the PC?

You missed something when reading my post.  The PS1 and PC versions have the exact same soundtracks bit for bit, except for ONE difference.  That being that PCs don't have the same MIDI synthesizer that the PS1 does.  What's really odd is that the PC synthesizer, specifically the Yamaha one for FF7 and the "Microsoft Synthesizer" (whatever that is) for FF8, seems to output these better.  The only thing the PC synthesizers seem to miss is some of the metalic sounding instruments, which aren't that prominent anyway (there's one in the battle theme for 7).

FYI, this topic is due to my downloading of this big torrent called "Final Fantasy Albums."  It has all of the game music plus remixes (including the piano stuff you may or may not have heard about), and even stuff from the FF Unlimited anime.  There's even a few unreleased tracks they have for Final Fantasy Tactics.

Suffice to say I only went after most of the game stuff that I heard of already (good old uTorrent and their selective downloading).
