It is just a statement, one of those indirect corelations. One was to figure out what the statement is trying to say to you. Like that statement, its simply implying that to have silence is as good as gold. or something like that.

There are better things than gold. I think humans are better than gold. Gold can't hug you, though you can hold gold! However, it is quite sparkly, I will concur.
