Cheapskate, or just plain crazy?

To give a bit of background to this, I don't have any of the main three gaming systems (Xbox, PS2, or Gamecube).  My main gaming systems at the moment are the Gameboy Advance and PS1 (a few disks clutter the floor to my right  ), as well as a few PC games I have.

So, now to the point.  A PS2 has grabbed my interest because it has tons of RPGs.  Well... actually, it's grabbed my interest only because it'll have some Dragon Warrior games on it (DW8, since it seems the DW5 won't see the light of day outside Japan :x ), but also because there's the opportunity for other RPGs to grab my interest.  A few reasons keep me from buying one now.

1.  The PS3 will be backwards compatible with PS2 games, meaning I could play PS2 and PS3 games on it.
2.  The PS3 may have a hard drive.  I'm also still hoping that they'll get a clue and do 4 controller ports without having to buy a multitap.
3.  This would give me a headstart on the next generation consoles, which I rarely ever do (usually wait for a few respectable games to come out, and my view of respectable is EXTREMELY limited).
4.  It would save me money if I didn't have to buy a PS2.
5.  Any PS2 games I'd want I wouldn't have to pay full price for.  Just wait for them to drop to $20 and then snatch them up.  In fact, I have a copy of Kingdom Hearts sitting in my drawer right now (it was $17, though).

So, given this information, what do you think?  Smart money saving method, or am I just daft?  smile

When asked about his opinion of the PS3's competing systems, 360 and Wii, Sony's SCE president, Ken Kutaragi, says:  "We don't care."
Translation:  "We're going to get 0wned this gen."
