Re: thoughts

Take time to be friendly -- It is the road to happiness.
Take time to dream -- It is hitching your wagon to a star.
Take time to lve and to be loved -- It is the privelege of the Gods.
Take time to look around -- It is too short a day to be shelfish.
Take time to laugh -- It is the music of the soul.

Re: thoughts

Here's a few from another book done by Brown,

I've learned that:

...I can't change the past, but I can let it go.
...if you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you've always gotten.
..., ultimately, takers lose and givers win.

...you should never jump out of a second story window using a sheet for a parachute. (age 10)

Understanding

If I knew you and you knew me,
If both of us could clearly see,
And with an inner sight divine
The meaning of your heart and mine,
I'm sure that we would differ less,
And clasp our hands in friendliness;
Our thoughts would pleasantly agree
If I knew you and you knew me.

What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?

It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.
-Irish proverb

The cure for all the ills and wrongs, the cares, the sorrows and crimes of humanity, all lie in that one word "LOVE." It is the divine vitality that produces and restores life. To each and every one of us it gives the power of working miracles, If we will.

Re: thoughts

I've learned that...

you should invest in your family first and in your career second.
something is impossible to teach without learning something yourself.
going the extra mile puts you miles ahead of your competition.
choices made in adolescence have long term consequences.
a fulfilled life is not possible without friends.
if you like yourself and who you are, then you'll probably like almost everyone you meet regardless of who they are.
being too quick to judge someone can deprive you of a great encounter and the possibility of a wonderful long-term relationship.

I am done with great things and big plans, great institutions, and big success. I am for those tiny, invisible loving human forces that work from individual to individual, creeping through the crannies of the world like so many rootlets, or like the capillary oozing of water, which, if given time rend the hardest mouments of pride.

Re: thoughts

"A Psalm of Life"

Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!-
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art; to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
Finds us farther than today.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though strout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

Trust no Future, howe'ver pleasant!
Let the dead Past burty its dead!
Act, act in the living present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead.

Lives of great men all remind us,
We can make our lives sublime,
And, deaprting, leave behind us,
Footprints in the sads of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate,
Still achieveing, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

-Henry W. Longfellow

In times of war and famine, a pound of flour is worth more than a pound of gold. --Me!

I've been thinking about that today (mostly because of reading "Pearls of Lutra" by Brian Jacques) and I think of how people tend to get so wrapped up on what they have (including myself--be it "treasure" or whatever) and forget the Lord and the gospel.  Materialistic people!  Blargh.  Dumb materialisim.

Re: thoughts

A single thread in a tapestry
Though its color brightly shines
Can never see its purpose
In the pattern of the grand design

And the stone that sits on the very top
Of the mountain's mighty face
Doesn't think it's more important
Than the stones that form the base?

So how can you see what your life is worth
Or where your value lies?
You can never see through the eyes of man
You must look at your life through heaven's eyes

A lake of gold in the desert sand
Is less than a cool fresh spring
And to one lost sheep, a shepherd boy
Is greater than the richest king
If a man lose everything he owns
Has he truly lost his worth?
Or is it the beginning
Of a new and brighter birth?

So how do you measure the worth of a man
In wealth or strength or size?
In how much he gained or how much he gave?
The answer will come to him who tries
To look at his life through heaven's eyes

And that's why we share all we have with you
Though there's little to be found
When all you've got is nothing
There's a lot to go around

No life can escape being blown about
By the winds of change and chance
And though you never know all the steps
You must learn to join the dance

So how do you judge what a man is worth
By what he builds or buys?
You can never see with your eyes on earth
Look at your life through heaven's eyes

---Through Heaven's Eyes from Prince of Egypt soundtrack, slightly modified to sound better when read.
