Computer’s Done

Doer of all, master of none. Falling behind on the checklist, but I got Mario Kart Wii. It is awesome, and just as annoying as the old one. Getting in the middle of the pack spells doom for trying to win. I really like the new system, and I can’t complain about Wifi, its awesome because even my sister was able to play online with it. I miss the network specific features, but since Nintendo isn’t going away, I can live with having to connect to their servers. If you’ve played Mario Kart DS, you’ll know how to play it on the Wii. Almost everything is the same control wise. Time to take care of a hum :)   I think I need to limit my objects of affection a little.

Actually, the online mode for Mario Kart Wii is better than MK DS. MUCH better.

Yes, I bought it too. Six game trade-ins (all DS) with $5 left over. I’m amazed at how lukewarm my reception to most DS games is. I only kept three.

    which three?

I still have New Super Mario Bros. (gotta have Mario games!), Contra 4, and Pokemon Diamond.

The games I got rid of were Meteos, Puzzle Quest, Bomberman Land Touch!, Mario Kart DS (quite effectively replaced by Mario Kart Wii), Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (fun game, though not nearly as awesome as its GBA predecessor), and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. They were all good in their own regard (didn’t care for Bomberman that much), but either not “replay good” or I just sucked them dry with replays and didn’t have the desire to keep them in my collection. I’m surprised that I got rid of Phantom Hourglass. It just wasn’t up to part with most other Zeldas, in my opinion. Maybe I was just annoyed at how the last battle the game didn’t want to register my touch screen input (you’ll see what I mean when you get there… unless you’re lucky). Otherwise, the controls were great.

    Anyway, rant over. =P

Contra 4? Was it really THAT good? I suppose the Pokemon Diamond was because you were a die hard, but my must keeps unfortunately appear under your jettisoned list. Though I would agree Mario Kart Wii is amazing. I am glad you saw the light quickly inspite of prior feelings.

Well, if you want an old-school feeling gun-and-run, Contra 4 is about as good as they come without delving into previous games in the series (of which two of them are unlockable on the DS cartridge). I’m quite a fan of the series, so keeping it was a no-brainer. Considering I’m also a Zelda fan, I guess that means Phantom Hourglass’ effect on me was something of an anomaly. Of course, I’m sure it didn’t help matters that I kept thinking of how much more awesome Wind Waker was (minus the endless ocean sailing).

As for Mario Kart Wii, my initial feelings against it were in the original 4-player mindset. Despite being online, Mario Kart DS never had more than 4 players, and it severely limited the number of courses playable online. However, Mario Kart Wii allowed a HIGH number of people to play online (which is good if you’re going to force a team vs. team battle-mode on people), and further more they improved the connection abilities of the online mode, making it a lot less arduous to connect to people. Plus, the ability to play “just one race” rather than a set of four before finding a winner made things SO much more relaxed.
